Webster Technique Chiropractor in Arlington Heights

If you have been referred for the Webster Technique or encountered it while looking into pregnancy care, it helps to understand what the technique addresses. At J & Co. Chiropractic, Dr. Jessica Cho offers Webster consultations as part of her chiropractic practice in Arlington Heights.

The focus is an assessment of the patient’s sacral and pelvic region. If your concern is your baby’s position or delivery, your obstetrician or midwife is the right starting point.

Meet Dr. Jessica Cho

Dr. Jessica Cho is certified in the Webster Technique through the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association. She earned her Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Southern California University of Health Sciences in 2010. You are welcome to ask about her approach and the reasoning behind any recommended care.

What the Webster Technique Involves

The International Chiropractic Pediatric Association describes Webster as a specific chiropractic assessment and adjustment approach intended to address sacral or sacroiliac joint dysfunction. The sacrum sits at the base of the spine; the sacroiliac joints connect it to the pelvis. The ICPA explanation of the Webster Technique describes its scope.

Although Webster is often discussed in connection with pregnancy, it is not limited to pregnant patients. Whether it is appropriate for you depends on an individual assessment, not simply your trimester or the name of a technique.

Webster and Concerns about a Breech Baby

The ICPA does not endorse Webster as a treatment for fetal malposition or intrauterine constraint. Chiropractic care does not replace obstetric assessment of a baby’s position.

If you have been told that your baby is breech, contact your obstetrician or midwife to discuss evaluation and delivery options. Do not delay that care while seeking chiropractic appointments. We do not promise that Webster will change fetal position, prevent a cesarean delivery, or shorten labor.

What to discuss at a Webster consultation

Your reason for seeking care

Describe the discomfort or movement problem you want help with, when it began, and what makes it better or worse. If you are pregnant, share your stage of pregnancy, relevant complications, and guidance from your obstetric clinician. Also bring information about your health conditions, medications, and previous injuries.

Whether the technique is appropriate

Dr. Cho reviews your health history and assesses the areas of concern before recommending care. Ask why Webster is being considered, what it would involve, and what alternatives are available. A consultation does not mean that an adjustment is necessary.

Comfort and progress

Discuss positioning and any concerns about hands-on care before treatment. Let Dr. Cho know if a position or movement is uncomfortable. Ask what response to watch for and when the plan should be reassessed. Results and the number of visits vary; improvement after a set number of appointments is not guaranteed.

Questions about Webster Care

Prenatal chiropractic care describes chiropractic care during pregnancy. Webster is one specific technique. For the broader first-visit process, common reasons to seek a consultation, and when medical care should come first, see our prenatal chiropractic care page.

No treatment is risk-free. The National Institutes of Health notes that rigorous research on spinal manipulation during pregnancy is limited. Discuss your circumstances and potential risks and benefits with your health care providers. Read its spinal manipulation overview before your visit if you would like more background.

Do not wait for a Webster appointment if you have an urgent pregnancy concern. Seek medical care immediately for symptoms such as chest pain, trouble breathing, severe abdominal pain, vaginal bleeding or fluid leakage, or reduced fetal movement. The CDC lists urgent maternal warning signs; the list is not a substitute for an individual medical assessment.
